Dear colleagues and friends of legal history,

I hereby invite you to the general meeting of the Freiburg Society for Legal History on Saturday, July 6, 2019.
at 15:30 to the library of the German Section of the Institute for Legal History, University Building II,5th floor.

In the morning, 11 a.m. s.t., in the lecture hall 1098, University Building I, Professor em. Dr. Frank Kolb will deliver a speech about Rule and Local Autonomy in Lycia from the Dynastic to the Imperial Period.

Mrs Marlene Kottmann will then report on her dissertation project The Rastatt Trials.

At 1.30 p.m. a common lunch is planned for the members and the speakers in the restaurant Oberkirch at Münsterplatz on the upper floor. Please let my secretariat know by 28 June whether you would like to attend the lunch. The entrance to the Peterhof is open for the annual meeting at 15:30 hrs.

Dear friends of legal history,

As in the previous year, our society is offering an evening lecture in November to supplement the lecture "European and German Legal History".

Professor Dr. phil. Saskia Lettmaier, B.A. (Oxford), LL.M., S.J.D. (Harvard)
will be held on Wednesday, 7 November 2018, at 18.00 c.t. in the Audimax of the Kollegiengebäude II
about "A Mystery in Comparative Legal History."

Professor Lettmaier teaches and researches at the Chair of Civil Law, German and European History of Law, Private International Private and Comparative Law at the Hermann Kantorowicz Institute of the Christian-Albrechts-University at Kiel. Professor Lettmaier is also a judge in the second main office of the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court. Her research interests lie in the following areas: civil law, in particular family and inheritance law, from a historical, comparative, international and interdisciplinary perspective; English and continental European legal history, especially of the early modern period and modern period; comparative law; law and religion; law and literature. Professor Lettmaier has received numerous national and international awards and scholarships for her achievements, including the Irving Oberman Memorial Prize of the Harvard Law School for the best work in legal history and family law.

Evening lecture 8 May 2018

Private Lecturer Dr. Daniel Damler will talk on Tuesday, 8 May at 18:00 c.t. at HS 1010 about

"Constitutional celestial mechanics. The "Balance of Forces" and the Physical World View of the Enlightenment."

Dr. Damler was awarded the Prize "Legal Book of the Year" for his two monographs "Wild Law" and "Corporate and Modernity".

The Freiburg Society for Legal History congratulates

Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Karl Kroeschell

on his 90th birthday on 14th November 2017.

Karl Kroeschell taught at the University of Freiburg from 1975 to 1995 after numerous appointments and a professorship at Göttingen University. With his three-volume "German Legal History", he left his mark on German legal studies after 1968 like no other legal historian. The honorary doctorate of the University of Osaka and the honorary membership of the Japanese Academy of Sciences bear witness to his international reputation among numerous other awards.

Professor Masaki Taguchi from Hokkaido University, Japan, will visit our institute from 22 August to 6 September 2017.

As a resultat of his research, he published the monograph "Königliche Gerichtsbarkeit und regionale Konfliktbeilegung im deutschen Spätmittelalter: Die Regierungszeit Ludwigs des Bayern (1314–1347)" in 2017.
